about
hello, i'm ivy. i am non-binary and would like to be referred with xe/xem, fae/faer or they/them pronouns.
I have been deeply interested in computers since my early childhood. I currently use Parabola GNU+Linux and I am getting to know OpenBSD and might use it as my main OS soon, because of its minimalism, stability, highly regarded documentation and proactive security and also because of Linux's unstable path of corporate influence.
I am trying to learn programming, and i'm still really beginner at this, i don't have any project worth publish at all right now. I once tried to learn Java and C++, which i fucking regret because they're really sucky languages, and after trying to learn for multiple months I still barely could program anything and yeah i gave up nearly a year ago. Now I'm learning the one and only truly portable, fast, minimal and based language: C.
I am a strong advocate for free software. People should control their computers and software, not be controlled by Big-Tech-controlled computers. I strongly oppose the word "Open-Source" and its implied values, because what we need is full freedom, not viewable source code and free labor for big tech. I support the principle of avoiding all proprietary software and insisting on using free software only, and yes this includes proprietary video games, because they especially are egregious. Seems people are so addicted to them, some measure the "completeness of [GNU/]Linux" by how many proprietary Windoze-only video games run under a compatability layer (Wine). Free (libre) video games are good (reminder: free refers to freedom, not price; copies of free software games can still be sold).
I support minimal software and the Unix Philosophy. Free software ought to be minimalist, so that the 4 essential freedoms can effectively be executed. If something like a web browser has 20 Million LOC, it might as well be proprietary. A init should only do the init part, nothing more.
I am also trying to draw art, and making/playing music (electric guitar and bass), however i am also still sadly very beginner at all these.
On this website, i plan to make guides, software recommendations and philosophy on free, minimalist software. I hope to also put my software projects and art on here in the future. Unfortunately, I am really shy about publishing anything. this website was made in xhtml and minimal css and should look fine in any browser (tested on dillo).
contact
I would love to get in contact with more people. Please be aware that I am really shy and that I often don't initiate coversations, because I think that I'm bothering you. Don't take that as me losing interest or me not liking you, I like talking with people (except fascist shitheads), but I always think that I'm annoying. Please do initiate conversations.
anyways if you want to get in contact with me, here are my adressess (remove the underscores):

- Note: Please do not use Privacy Abuser providers like gmail or outlook. They data-mine all E-Mail traffic and insidiously flag all E-Mails sent from non-Big Tech providers as spam! Some of the good providers I recommend are: RiseUp (invite only), disroot, posteo or hosting it yourself

I will only use communication protocols that are decently decentralized, are open, have good encryption and have non-bloated free software implementations. If you use a protocol that meets all of these basic criteria, which I don't use, feel free to tell me about it. Protocols that certainly fail these are but not limited to: Discord, WhatsApp, Matrix, Signal, SMS, Telegram, Wire, Session, etc. (The links are to pages that explain more in detail why they suck).
